She Received a Letter From Her Mother 10 Years After Her Death

Silence.

“I found the box, Dad.”

She heard him inhale.

“What box?”

“The photographs. The letters. Anna.”

For several seconds, neither spoke.

Then her father said something she would never forget.

“Emily, come home. There’s something I need to tell you.”

“Then tell me now.”

His voice broke.

“Because if I tell you over the phone, I may never get the chance to explain what happened.”

Chapter 4: Her Father’s Confession

When Emily arrived home, her father was waiting at the kitchen table.

In front of him lay an old photograph.

He looked ten years older than he had the previous evening.

“Anna was your mother’s daughter from a previous relationship,” he began. “When Sarah and I got married, I promised to treat her as my own.”

“What happened to her?”

Richard stared at the table.
