“Eight months after divorcing me because I “couldn’t give him a family,”

I bought three pregnancy tests from three different pharmacies because I was too frightened to believe the first one.

All three were positive.

For almost an hour, I sat on the bathroom floor staring at them.

Then I called my doctor.

I asked one question.

“Is the baby okay?”

My doctor turned the monitor toward me.

A tiny flicker appeared.

“Yes,” she whispered.

That afternoon, I almost called Ryan.

Something inside me hardened.

I changed doctors.

Changed apartments.

Transferred my consulting work to another office.

Stopped posting online.

And told only three people.
