“Eight months after divorcing me because I “couldn’t give him a family,”

Then the person texting him after midnight.

Then the woman who showed up at the restaurant three weeks after our separation wearing my husband’s watch.

After our divorce became final, she sent flowers to my apartment.

White lilies.

The same flowers I had carried at our wedding.

There was a card tucked between them.

Four words.

Some women are chosen.

I had thrown the flowers into the trash.

The card I kept.

I still had it.

“What do you want, Ryan?” I asked.

“I told you. I’m inviting you.”

“You haven’t spoken to me in eight months.”

“Well, today’s special.”

I heard voices in the background.
