At the time, Naomi had laughed it out of mediation.

“What was the plan?” I whispered.
Elias didn’t answer.
Naomi did.
“They needed a Carter biological heir.”
I looked at her.
“But Ryan left me because he thought I couldn’t have one.”
She looked toward the cryogenic report.
“No.”
The blood drained from my face.
He hadn’t left because I couldn’t give him a child.
He had left because they thought they had already found another way to obtain one.
