But there was a reality that any newcomer ended up discovering very soon.
Within those walls there was a woman they all feared.

It was enough to see it appear so that the environment changed completely. The conversations went out and many inmates lowered their heads as they walked away.
His presence imposed respect. He grazed the two meters high, had a huge constitution and a force that seemed enormous. There was a rumor that a single blow of his was enough to knock anyone unconscious.
Over the years he had built a real realm of intimidation.
Some washed their clothes.
Others cleaned his cell.
Many delivered some of their food.
And there were few who agreed to do the most unpleasant tasks solely to avoid facing it.
Nobody wanted to challenge her.
Vanessa enjoyed demonstrating her power before all, publicly humiliating whoever would cross her path to remember that she was the one who was sending there.
For several days he did not even notice the new intern.
Until lunchtime.
The dining room was full. The inmates occupied the long metal tables while talking quietly.
The newcomer remained alone, eating quietly in a corner.
Then Vanessa saw her.
He watched her for a moment from the other end of the dining room. A mocking smile appeared on her face before slowly walking toward her.
Little by little the silence began to spread.
Many interns stopped talking.
