“Not one word,” I warned her in a dẹadIy manner.
I quickly let go, threw myself back onto the hospital bed, and closed my eyes tight just as the door swung open.
“What was that noise?!” the doctor barked.
I held my breath, praying the nurse would not sell me out.
“I… I dropped the syringe, Doctor,” the nurse stammered. Her voice was shaking very badly.
“You fooIish girl!” the doctor hissed. “Did you give her the injection? Is she asleep?”

“Yes, Doctor. She is deeply asleep,” the nurse lied.
I thanked God in my heart, but my relief only lasted for a second.
