After the paperwork, the guard led the woman to a cell, showed her the bed, and warned her that in a few minutes the inmates would be let out into the yard. The old woman nodded quietly. She did not yet know that she was already being watched.
In the prison yard there was a woman nicknamed Razor. Almost all the inmates feared her. She was large, strong, and her face and ears were covered with piercings. Usually two women were constantly near her, who did everything she said.
When Razor saw the newcomer, she grinned.
— Look who they brought us.
Her friends laughed.
The old woman tried to walk past them, but Razor took a step to the side and blocked her way.
— Where are you going, grandma?
The woman stopped.
— I just want to sit down.
— First show what you brought.
The old woman pressed the bag more tightly to herself.
— There are only my things here.
— We will see which ones.
One of the women tried to snatch the bag, but the old woman unexpectedly gripped it firmly with both hands.
— Please, don’t.
